The only time I get to go to the cinema now I have kids is to see the latest films suitable for a 5 year old. So when I saw an advert for Show Dogs on a bus this summer, it at least had the appeal of cute dogs in it to stop me napping whilst holding popcorn. But my luck was out and my husband got there before me, whisking our daughter off in the summer holidays to see it whilst I was at work.
Luckily we’ve now got a DVD copy and it’s a firm favourite with our 5 and 2 year olds. The Rottweiler’s black and tan markings are enough of a close match for my kids to think it looks like Lupo. The film had my daughter laughing out loud, and I guess it’s a modern similarity to one of my favourite films as a kid, K-9. Bill Murray and Jerry-Lee didn’t need special effects but they did make it sound like she said a few words!
Here is the official info, I recommend it for a rainy afternoon viewing…
This autumn bring home the pawfect family film that follows the story of one wily police dog as he goes deep undercover as… a show dog. Show Dogs struts its stuff onto Digital Download from 17th September and on Blu-rayTM and DVD from 1st October, courtesy of Entertainment One.
Follow the rebel dog with a cause, Max (Ludacris), who reluctantly teams up with a human FBI agent Frank (Will Arnett) to recover a stolen baby panda. A hot tip leads Max and Frank to Las Vegas and unfamiliar territory; the world’s most exclusive dog show. To stop Max barking up the wrong tree, he must go undercover as a contestant to get the lowdown from his fellow canines. Along the way the street-wise Rottweiler and his hapless human must learn to work together; with help from their new friends, the crime-fighting duo, hot on the smugglers tails, must sniff out another kidnapping plot to save the day.
Max’s dog-eared determination wouldn’t be enough without his cohort of canine companions; Philippe (Stanley Tucci; The Devil Wears Prada, Hunger Games), Daisy (Jordin Sparks; Left Behind, The Grace of Jake), Spinkles (Gabriel Iglesias; Coco, Ferdinand), Karma (Shaquille O’Neal; The Lego Movie, Scary Movie 4) and Dante (Alan Cumming; The Good Wife, Battle of the Sexes).
Lap up the laugh out loud comedy, Show Dogs when it arrives on Digital Download from 17th September and on Blu-rayTM and DVD from 1st October, courtesy of Entertainment One. PG rated and DVD 88 mins approx.
